We Are UGI: Making A Difference in the Wyoming Valley

30 May 2025

UGI Utilities employees recently volunteered for United Way of Wyoming Valley’s Day of Caring, which unites hundreds of volunteers to help nonprofits in the Wyoming Valley area complete needed work projects and to learn more about their missions and needs. Day of Caring provides the community with the opportunity to be part of what the United Way does all year long – mobilize people and resources to build stronger communities by partnering with local organizations to meet community needs.

Sixty-one UGI Utilities employees participated in four projects at Patriots Cove in Noxen, PA; Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO)’s Weinberg Food Bank in Pittston, PA; Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Plains, PA; and Wyoming Valley Children’s Association in Forty Fort, PA.

Patriots Cove is an 18-acre refuge that was founded by military veteran Jeff Swire and his spouse to help veterans, first responders, and their caregivers heal and adapt to life after service. Our employees helped Patriots Cove set up tents and perform other tasks to prepare for their annual fishing tournament.

CEO’s Weinberg Food Bank provides food to community organizations to distribute to families in-need in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties. During Day of Caring, volunteers packed food boxes for seniors.

“I never volunteered at a food bank before, so it was nice to see how the organization operates. I was able to put physical labor towards a good cause and was united with coworkers that share the same values,” says UGI employee volunteer, Melody A.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace believes that no kid should sleep on the floor. Kids need sleep to function and perform in school like a normal, happy child. The organization’s mission is to build, assemble, and deliver bunk beds to children and families in need. During Day of Caring, volunteers helped to build beds for distribution to local families.

“This is the second year that I volunteered for this organization,” says UGI employee volunteer Joe S. “When I met the founder and her core volunteers, I knew this would be an organization I would continue to volunteer for. The dedication they have and all the blood, sweat, and tears they put into it is truly amazing.”

Wyoming Valley Children’s Association is an organization whose mission is to provide the highest quality of early childhood education to ensure the greatest developmental potential of all children. The North Region sales and marketing team cleaned a classroom and set it up for summer use. Volunteers mopped the floor, washed toys, and tidied the classroom area.

We thank our employees for their continued support of United Way and their partner agencies!
